An investment in the beauty, safety and value of your home is a good idea any time, but it can be especially meaningful during the holiday season. When you install a professional Charlotte outdoor lighting system, you are improving the quality of life at your home all year long.

Let a professional design your outdoor lighting system.

A well-designed architectural lighting plan will include your decorating ideas for your home. Whether you hang wreaths in December or display flags on the big oak in your front yard, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte will make sure that everyone can appreciate your sense of style. You will be able to see your beautiful home accessories day or night.

There is nothing more warm and welcoming than arriving at a well lit house. When you incorporate Charlotte architectural lighting into your property, you let friends and family know that you are always happy to see them. Day or night, every month of the year, you leave a light on for them.

Outdoor lighting increases safety all year long

Outdoor lighting increases safety all year long.

Strings of blinking lights wrapped around trees are fun, but they do little to improve the safety of your home. Trip and fall injuries are usually preventable. The first step in avoiding this common problem is making sure that walkways and stairs are easy to see. By illuminating areas where there is a change in elevation, like doorways, gates, and patios, you make movement safer for everyone. It’s a great way to show you care.

The one group of potential visitors who won’t appreciate your Charlotte landscape lighting, is burglars. Home security professionals recommend that you light shadowed areas close to your home to take away possible hiding places. Everyone likes to see Santa bringing a big bag of gifts. No one wants to see the Grinch taking everything out of your house. Quality exterior lighting is one of the best security features money can buy and that’s one of the best gifts you can give yourself and your family.

What Does an Outdoor Lighting Pro Bring to the Table?

Landscape lighting done professionally adds value to your home.

Landscape lighting done professionally adds value to your home.

If you have ever tried your hand at another person’s job, you know the potential pitfalls you can run into when you are attempting a new task with unfamiliar tools. Charlotte landscape lighting is a classic example of a project that is deceptively difficult for the average homeowner. Fortunately, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte can help you out.

One advantage that outdoor lighting design professionals have is that they are experienced at thinking in three dimensions. When they approach facade lighting, they work their way up and down and side to side, always considering special architectural features that create a feeling of depth. Your home isn’t flat and your lighting shouldn’t make it look that way.

Every home gets a custom design to highlight their best features.

Every home gets a custom design to highlight their best features.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte also understands that your home doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Our experienced exterior lighting designers give careful consideration to your entire property and how your house looks within that environment. If you have outdoor living spaces, gardens or outbuildings, they will work to create a design that integrates all the parts of your property into one comprehensive and attractive plan.

There are dozens of tricks, tools and specialty lighting techniques that our pros regularly use to make their projects really stand out at night. Moon lighting, for instance, creates the effect of a bright full moon shining down through the trees onto your property, regardless of how big the actual moon may be on any given night. Sometimes even we barely notice that the light comes from a fixture and not the sky. It’s extremely difficult to pull off a special effect like moon lighting if you are an amateur.

Our solid copper fixtures blend in with their surroundings.

Perhaps the biggest advantage the professional has in Charlotte outdoor architectural lighting is knowing which tools to use when. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte has access to reliable, reputable suppliers and only uses the highest quality brass, copper and heavy-duty pvc lighting fixtures handcrafted for exterior use. We know when a well light should be used instead of a spot light (or something else entirely). We also have an eye for potential nighttime safety hazards and make them our highest priority.

Exterior home lighting is an investment in your property that will pay dividends in increased safety, security and curb appeal. Give us a call for a free consultation and we will show you the professional advantage only Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte can give you.

Taking Charlotte Outdoor Living to the Next Level

Fall and winter are outstanding times to evaluate your home and yard and make arrangements to improve them. During the spring and summer there can be a lot of competition for the best contractors and the best prices. The cooler months are the time when the early birds are thinking about how they want to enjoy their yards next year and making their plans.

Professionally designed and installed Charlotte outdoor lighting is frequently underused and undervalued. If you have ever spent an evening relaxing around a fire pit on a well lit paver patio, you know how the lighting elevates the quality of the experience. People aren’t stumbling around in the dark, accidentally swapping drinks or risking a dangerous trip and fall. The patio lighting warmly echoes the light from the fire and improves both the mood and the safety.

Charlotte landscape lightingIf you are lucky enough to have a gazebo, trellis or swing in your garden, it is probably one of your favorite parts of your yard. They are wonderful because you can almost surround yourself with nature. When they are carefully and gently lit, you will find that you spend even more time outside enjoying the serenity of the garden. With your lights on a dimmer, you can decide if you want enough light to see the colors of the flower blossoms or read a book or whether you want to keep things dim enough to enjoy the fireflies without losing your footing on your way from the house.

Have you invested in a grill or outdoor kitchen big enough to feed the whole clan? Can you see the food while you are cooking it? If you accidentally left this key design detail off your original plans, now is the perfect time to do a project add on. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte can design and install a system that will make all your outdoor cooking and entertaining so much easier and more enjoyable. It’s never too late to add lighting to your outdoor living area… and it’s never too early.

Don’t Wait To Turn The Light On

Do you remember the old slogan from the Tom Bodett commercials for Motel 6? Whether or not that motel chain is your cup of tea, the warm, folksy promise that Bodett offered at the end of every ad: “We’ll keep the light on for you,” really resonates. Leaving the light on is a timeless way of telling friends and family that you care about them and want them to arrive safely.

Your Charlotte landscape lighting is an welcoming invitation to your guest.

Your Charlotte landscape lighting is an welcoming invitation to your guest.

Regardless of your stage of life, Charlotte outdoor lighting offers so much to the people who live in and visit your home. Toddlers and young children often fear the dark and approach a building much more confidently when it is well lit. Whether they are your children, your grandchildren or even your great-grandchildren, you will want to make the path to your house warm and welcoming.

Teenagers are notorious for their inexperienced driving and late night arrivals. By lighting your driveway, you will help them navigate it safely, regardless of what time they come or go. You may find yourself staying up late to watch for their car returning from an ice cream run or a party. When the yard and doorways are lit, you won’t have to squint and peer out the window. You will know for sure if they made curfew or not.

Lighting your driveway with landscape lighting brings guests in and sends them off safely.

Trips and falls are not fun at any age, but they can be especially dangerous for elderly relatives. By keeping the entrances and exits to your home well maintained and adequately lighted, you help to mitigate that danger. After daylight savings time ends and the nights grow longer, Charlotte exterior lighting grows more important with each passing day.

Each night when I let the dog out before I go to sleep, I am always very happy to have a way to monitor his “progress” as he sniffs about the yard. If you have a procrastinator like mine, you will be very glad to have a way to know when the business of the evening has been accomplished. I believe my lights also deter other dog owners from stopping at my yard on their evening constitutional.

Your friends and family are the most important part of your life. Don’t wait to turn the light on for them. Call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte and your landscape lighting will extend that invitation to the each and every night.

Your Charlotte Outdoor Lighting Fall Tune-Up Checklist

Autumn leaves are beautiful but can effect your outdoor lighting system

Autumn leaves are beautiful but can effect your outdoor lighting system

The leaves have started to turn and, a little farther north, fall into yards. The first few are beautiful; then they start coming down in earnest and it’s time to either get out the rake and a stack of yard bags or to call a lawn service company. If you like to outsource work around the house and yard, we hope you will call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte to service your outdoor lighting system. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, I want to give you a short list of things to check on your outdoor lights while you are cleaning up the yard this fall.

A quality Charlotte outdoor lighting system is going to be relatively maintenance free, but like any mechanical or electrical system, it does require a little TLC to keep it operating well and looking great. The first thing you should do is check all the bulbs: are they all in working order? Are the fixtures free of debris? You can lose a lot of lumens to dirt and bugs in your fixtures. If you have glass or plastic lenses, you want to clean both sides of them thoroughly.

Install lens covers to keep your outdoor lighting looking its best.

Install lens covers to keep your outdoor lighting looking its best.

Halogen bulbs need to be changed every year or two, but LEDs have a much longer lifespan. Regardless of the type of bulb, make sure you replace like with like. The last thing you want to do is put excessive strain on your system by trying to draw more power than it is designed to handle. As the sun sets earlier and daylight savings time ends, you probably want to check and/or reset your timer too.

Give your fixtures a look to see if they are all still straight. Storms, kids, pets, and lawnmowers can easily knock fixtures off kilter and throw their light off target. Use a small level to check vertical fixtures. Working with a partner near sunrise or sunset can help you make sure the others are shining according to the original design. Obviously, you want to repair any damaged wires, fixtures or transformers. Those can be safety hazards since electricity is involved.

Foliage growth may need to be trimmed to be sure your lighting is not obstructed

Foliage growth may need to be trimmed to be sure your lighting is not obstructed

Finally, take a look at the growth you have had in your yard and garden over the summer. Are some of the trees, plants, and hedges making aggressive moves toward your light fixtures? Usually a few snips with a clipper will put them back in their place, but in dramatic cases you may need to move either the plant or the fixture. In plant vs. light, the plant will always win unless you step in to lend a hand.

Whether you purchased your Charlotte outdoor lighting from us or another vendor, we are always happy to come help repair or maintain your outdoor lighting system. Just give us a call.

Why Color Rendering Index Matters in LED Outdoor Lighting

With our high quality LEDs, LED outdoor lighting just became a lot more appealing.

With our high quality LEDs, LED outdoor lighting just became a lot more appealing.

As LED outdoor lighting gains popularity, many homeowners are rejoicing. At last, Charlotte residents can have an energy efficient, durable, and beautiful outdoor lighting. Just a few short years ago when LED emerged as an outdoor lighting option, it was not popular with designers or homeowners because of its look. Older LEDs emitted a bluish light that appeared cold, and it was just not as appealing as halogen. But within the past few years, LED outdoor lighting has made dramatic advancements, primarily due to the efforts of LED research and manufacturing company CREE. Now, Charlotte homeowners really can have it all – energy efficiency, durability, and beauty. But beware! Not all LEDs are created equal.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte endorses LED outdoor lighting, and as professional outdoor lighting designers, we wouldn’t do this if LEDs couldn’t look just as beautiful as other options. But there is still a lot of variation between products by different LED manufactures. Just because there have been advancements in quality doesn’t mean you will get the look you want. There are still many LEDs on the market that produce cold light. So how can you be sure the LEDs you choose for your outdoor lighting will be warm, natural, and inviting? By considering their Color Rendering Index (CRI) rating.

All LEDs are not created equal. Know how to tell the difference between high and low quality.

All LEDs are not created equal. Know how to tell the difference between high and low quality.

The CRI rating tells the consumer the color temperature of the light emitted by an LED. 2,700 – 3,000 Kelvin (K) is the optimal color temperature for warm, natural light. Anything over 3,200 will appear blue; anything below 2,700 has insufficient lumen output for effective illumination. The next time you are in a home improvement store stroll down the light bulb aisle and check the LEDs you find there. Some manufactures will have a CRI rating somewhere on the packaging, and now that you know the optimal range you can judge the LEDs appropriateness for you home. If you find yourself holding an LED that has no CRI rating, it is safe to assume it is cheaply produced and may well be cold and blue. The CREE LEDs used by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte in our outdoor lighting systems have a CRI rating of 3,000K. This color temperature is optimal for outdoor lighting, and at this temperature, we can even mix LEDs with halogen bulbs, and you won’t be able to tell them apart.

Sure, the CREE LEDs we use are more expensive than some on the market. There are many cheaper options. However, our LEDs are guaranteed to give you the look you want out of your outdoor lighting system. There are years of research and development behind the LEDs we use, and that makes a difference in the lighting’s appearance. So if you are ready to make the switch to LED outdoor lighting, contact Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte and know you are not only getting the best LEDs on the market but you’re also getting the look you truly love.

Don’t Give in to the Dark Side of Charlotte Landscape Lighting

Summer is coming to a close and the “big box” stores have outdoor lighting on clearance. Before you go getting excited about scoring a fabulous deal on the cheapest lighting fixtures money can buy, I’d like to offer you a few tips from a professional who has been in the Charlotte landscape lighting business for a while now.

Its tough to call solar fixtures "lighting".

Its tough to call solar fixtures “lighting”.

The Glow Worm Effect: Like with many inexpensively made imports, those stake lights you see in the discount aisle are not made to last and they don’t provide quality light. The solar-powered ones are especially weak. The concept of solar lighting sounds so promising, but the results on the street have been really disappointing. When I drive by homes with these anemic lights, I think of the glow worm night light toys that used to be popular. Glow worms are terrific for calming a fretful child at bedtime, but are not a great choice for lighting a home.

Lining your driveway makes it look like a runway.

Lining your driveway makes it look like a runway.

The Airport Effect: I’d also suggest that you avoid straight, parallel lines of stake lights going down a path or driveway. They almost always end up looking like a runway. You don’t live at the airport; your home shouldn’t look like one.

The Prison Escape: Another common rookie lighting mistake is putting the fixtures in any space that is convenient and then pointing them at various places in the yard. This creates two problems. First, you often see the fixture itself standing out like a lonely soldier on a field. Second, your home may end up looking like it has been caught as part of a prison escape attempt.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte brings professional custom designs and techniques to the table when we create up each of our outdoor lighting plans. This includes the proper placement of the light beams and concealment of the fixtures. Each and every light operates as a player on a team whose goal is to make your home look outstanding after dark.

Let a professional design your outdoor lighting system.

Our low-maintenance, energy-efficient Charlotte LED outdoor lighting fixtures put out an incredible amount of light. The solid copper and heavy duty pvc lights blend in beautifully with all your landscaping and they are built to last season after season. They can be put on a timer or paired with a remote control for added convenience. Call us for a free consultation and we’ll show you how great your house can look day and night.

Tree Lighting Isn’t Just for Holidays in Charlotte

Uplighting can create dramatic shadows using the trees branches.

Uplighting can create dramatic shadows using the trees branches.

We are so lucky here in Charlotte to have so many gorgeous native tree varieties. Whether your yard boasts maples with showy fall colors, classic southern magnolias, majestic oaks or one of the dozens of other beautiful trees of our region, Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte can make them look even better. We will bring your trees out of the shadows of night and make them the stars of your yard.

Think about which of your trees have the most presence. Those are going to be the top candidates for lighting. Whether they are tall and stately or have a magnificent spreading canopy, those trees are the best place to start. We can light them from above, below or both, depending on what aspects you most want to feature. Our outdoor lighting specialists will bring out your trees’ best qualities using the creative interplay of light and dark, known by artists as “chiaroscuro.”

Lighting your trees can cast ambient light upon your living spaces as well.

Lighting your trees can cast ambient light upon your living spaces as well.

Professionally lit trees will naturally enhance the beauty of your evenings and the curb appeal of your home. Many customers allow the tree lights to do double duty as a way to indirectly shed light on walkways, decks, patios and pools. By lighting the surrounding trees, you highlight the beauty of the landscape while capturing the reflective glow in your living areas.

If you are looking to do something a little different, ask us about options like acrylic lens covers that allow you to play with the colors of the lights on your trees. Some homeowners love them for football season or as part of a holiday light display. We also offer lights with different beam spreads and swivel mountings so that you can easily make adjustments. Regardless of the design you choose, you will love the flexibility and ease of maintenance our Charlotte landscape lighting systems offer.
