Our LED’s put us at the top in the Queen City for beautiful outdoor lighting designs.

Charlotte entryway lighting (2)LED lighting truly is a worldwide trending topic right now. Their popularity isn’t surprising, as they are lighting the way to a greener future. These innovative illuminators are doing this by using 75 percent less energy, lasting 25 times longer than incandescent light bulbs, and doing both of those desirable acts at a cooler temperature. In the energy industry the combination of these impressive features into a single bulb is a homerun, especially when compared to halogen or incandescent bulbs. However, for lighting designers and homeowners these features made LED bulbs intriguing, but could in no way make up for their lack of the warm and inviting sunlight-like color rendering capability. This is certainly not true for today’s LEDs!

cri_chart_webA good understanding of the color rendering index (CRI) rating of a light bulb is valuable for designers and homeowners alike. Because of the light bulb, we have the ability to be surrounded by color and light 24 hours a day…shouldn’t our interiors and exteriors be awash in the best true-color producing light possible? In general terms, CRI is a measure of a light source’s ability to show object colors “realistically” or “naturally” compared to a familiar reference source, either incandescent light or daylight. Daylight has the peak CRI of 100 and the newer LEDs have a 90.

The CRI rating tells the consumer the color temperature of the light emitted by an LED. 2,700 – 3,000 Kelvin (K) is the optimal color temperature for warm, natural light. Anything over 3,200 will appear blue; anything below 2,700 has insufficient lumen output for effective illumination. Any LED which has no CRI rating, is most likely poorly manufactured and will provide a cold sterile blue hue. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte uses CREE LEDs (CRI rating of 3,000K) in our outdoor lighting systems because they are the most optimal for outdoor lighting with a warm, natural feel.

Bring new life to your Charlotte home with outdoor lightingThe technological color quality improvements of the LED lighting today is how Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte is able to bring residents of the Queen City the most cutting edge, energy-efficient, durable, and beautiful outdoor lighting designs. Small spaces in your Charlotte backyard can be brought to life with patio lighting from Outdoor Lighting PerspectivesHave you ever looked at your outdoor lighting system and thought “I really wish I would’ve chosen an LED system instead?” This is certainly the case with many Charlotte area homeowners who did not get on the boat with LED when they initially had their existing lighting installed, and those whose existing systems were installed during the period when LED outdoor lighting was not as within reach.

path lighting invites guests in to this Charlotte homeThe winds of change may have you thinking the time is right to consider LED, and the good news is even if you are currently utilizing a halogen system all is not lost. Converting your existing outdoor lighting system to LED is many times a viable option which also means you can enjoy the many benefits of LED without having to start anew. If your existing system is 12 years old or newer, chances are your system could be a candidate for LED conversion!

After learning this news you are probably asking where do I start? First, your system will have to be inspected to see if LED conversion is possible. Most traditional outdoor lighting systems such as halogen and incandescent can easily be converted to LED. One of our outdoor lighting professionals can inspect your existing system and determine if your system qualifies. Once your existing system is deemed fit to undergo the conversion, you can start enjoying the many benefits of LED outdoor lighting.

Benefits of LED outdoor lighting

  • LED outdoor lighting systems consume nearly 90% less energy than traditional outdoor lighting systems. These savings will make you smile each time you pay your electrical bill.
  • LED outdoor lighting systems have extended longevity with longer bulb life that needs replacement less often. For example a typical halogen bulb will burn for approximately 2,000 to 4,000 hours, whereas an LED will last a whopping 50,000+ operating hours — Wow.
  • LED is a “greener” technology because it leaves less of a carbon footprint on the environment.  LED’s are responsible for less greenhouse gases by reduced carbon dioxide emissions. LED’s also contain no harmful chemical such as mercury that makes handling and disposal dangerous.
  • LED Outdoor Light bulbs

LED bulbs last much longer and are more energy-efficient

LED’s are UV free which means no ultraviolet rays which are prone to attract insects. This means using LED in your landscape, deck and patio lighting installation is a plus because it will not attract insects that can invade your outdoor living enjoyment.

  • LED’s are more durable and resilient than ordinary lighting systems — shock resistant, and also react better to changes in temperature, weather conditions and repeated cycling. LED’s will better withstand the demands needed by a bulb placed in outdoor situations.

Why Color Rendering Index Matters in LED Outdoor Lighting

With our high quality LEDs, LED outdoor lighting just became a lot more appealing.

With our high quality LEDs, LED outdoor lighting just became a lot more appealing.

As LED outdoor lighting gains popularity, many homeowners are rejoicing. At last, Charlotte residents can have an energy efficient, durable, and beautiful outdoor lighting. Just a few short years ago when LED emerged as an outdoor lighting option, it was not popular with designers or homeowners because of its look. Older LEDs emitted a bluish light that appeared cold, and it was just not as appealing as halogen. But within the past few years, LED outdoor lighting has made dramatic advancements, primarily due to the efforts of LED research and manufacturing company CREE. Now, Charlotte homeowners really can have it all – energy efficiency, durability, and beauty. But beware! Not all LEDs are created equal.

Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte endorses LED outdoor lighting, and as professional outdoor lighting designers, we wouldn’t do this if LEDs couldn’t look just as beautiful as other options. But there is still a lot of variation between products by different LED manufactures. Just because there have been advancements in quality doesn’t mean you will get the look you want. There are still many LEDs on the market that produce cold light. So how can you be sure the LEDs you choose for your outdoor lighting will be warm, natural, and inviting? By considering their Color Rendering Index (CRI) rating.

All LEDs are not created equal. Know how to tell the difference between high and low quality.

All LEDs are not created equal. Know how to tell the difference between high and low quality.

The next time you are in a home improvement store stroll down the light bulb aisle and check the LEDs you find there. Some manufactures will have a CRI rating somewhere on the packaging, and now that you know the optimal range you can judge the LEDs appropriateness for you home. If you find yourself holding an LED that has no CRI rating, it is safe to assume it is cheaply produced and may well be cold and blue. The CREE LEDs used by Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte in our outdoor lighting systems have a CRI rating of 3,000K. This color temperature is optimal for outdoor lighting, and at this temperature, we can even mix LEDs with halogen bulbs, and you won’t be able to tell them apart.

Sure, the CREE LEDs we use are more expensive than some on the market. There are many cheaper options. However, our LEDs are guaranteed to give you the look you want out of your outdoor lighting system. There are years of research and development behind the LEDs we use, and that makes a difference in the lighting’s appearance. So if you are ready to make the switch to LED outdoor lighting, contact Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte and know you are not only getting the best LEDs on the market but you’re also getting the look you truly love.

Light More, Spend Less: One Charlotte Resident’s LED Outdoor Lighting Conversion

A long time client approached us recently. And to clarify, when I say “long time,” I mean it. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte installed his original outdoor lighting system ten years ago. His property is large, beautiful, and illuminated by 180 halogen fixtures. The only downside to the system is that operating it is costly. So when our client approached us about this, we were happy we had the perfect solution – LED conversion.

If you have large property with many lights or you simply want to cut costs, LED conversion can help you save on your energy bill.

If you have large property with many lights or you simply want to cut costs, LED conversion can help you save on your energy bill.

When our client first installed his system, LEDs were not good options for outdoor lighting. At that time, the color of these lights was very cold, bluish, and unnatural. So even though they consumed less energy, they weren’t attractive. As beauty is one of the main reasons for adding outdoor lighting, they just weren’t acceptable. But luckily, LED technology has come a long way in ten years. Today, their light is clear, natural, and beautiful, and we were able to offer our client high quality LED options that can be integrated seamlessly into his system. Even he won’t be able to tell the difference.

As we move forward with his conversion, we’re doing it in stages since LEDs can now be installed right alongside halogen lights without standing out. We will be converting the well lights and tree lighting first because they consume the most wattage. Later, we’ll revisit his path lighting.

LED bulbs last much longer and are more energy efficient

LED bulbs last much longer and are more energy efficient

In the end, our client is converting not because he disliked the look of his halogen system but rather because his system will look the just as beautiful and his electric bill will cost substantially less each month. LED bulbs consume about 80% less energy than halogen bulbs do. By converting just 75 of his 180 fixtures, our client will save $100+ per month, and if he converts more fixtures later, the energy savings will be even greater. Additionally, he’ll save maintenance costs since LED components last longer than halogen, with bulbs lasting up to twenty-fives times longer. And finally with Lighting Control Automation (LCA), he can turn zones of the system on or off whenever he pleases to save even more.

It is really much easier to convert than you think. In the hands our highly skilled technicians, you can be cutting energy costs in no time, and if you want to make additions to your system, we may even be able to add more fixtures to your current transformer than you thought. Since LEDs use less wattage, more lights can be added than if they were halogen. So what are you waiting for? Start the new year right by saving more. Call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte today, or contact us here, or through our website. We’d be happy to answer any questions you have about LED conversion.

The Difference is Virtually Indistinguishable. LED Outdoor Lighting for your Charlotte Home

LED lighting reigns supreme. These lights have been on the market for quite a few years and have taken dominance. They are bright, energy efficient, and last longer than their halogen counterparts. It’s no wonder that they are extremely popular both inside and outside of the home. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte recommends LED lights in any outdoor lighting system. The benefits of these technologically superior bulbs go

LED bulbs last much longer and are more energy efficient

LED bulbs last much longer and are more energy efficient

beyond just saving you a few extra dollars.

When you choose LED lights, you rake in countless benefits. You use around 80% less energy than halogen bulbs and receive up to 50,000 hours of life – that equates to about 25 years! In the long run you’ll be able to save a considerable amount of money. For what you’re spending you’ll be receiving generous longevity with these lights. Plus you’ll be doing your part to help save the environment at the same time. LED lights last longer and produce less waste than their counterparts. These few pros alone should be enough to persuade any skeptic.

The biggest benefit is yet to come. Sometimes LEDs of lesser quality have been known produce a blue-like tint. The result looks far from natural and can turn people off. Our LED lights avoid this problem altogether. The high luminosity of our lights means a softer, more natural hue. Rating how well a light produces luminosity is done via the Color Rendering Index (CRI). This scale is used to pinpoint exactly how well a light can reproduce the textures and colors of an object as natural light would. The scale ranges from 1-100 with 100 being the best light possible. Our LEDs lights rate over 80. This means that they show color well and bring out the texture similarly to how natural light would. Compared side by side with a halogen light, the two are virtually indistinguishable.

Halogen vs. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives LED outdoor lighting

You sacrifice nothing when it comes to choosing LED lighting. It is cost-efficient, environmentally safe, and color enhancing. The glow can be soft and subtle or bright and commanding depending on which voltage you choose. Call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte and upgrade your current outdoor halogen lights to LED or have new LED outdoor lighting installed.  Your entire home and landscape will be shining brightly for hours on end with some of the best LED lighting available.

LED: the Best Outdoor Lighting Option for Charlotte Residents

Charlotte is a beautiful place to live. With everything from tall skyscrapers to beautiful suburbs, we really do have it made. In recent years, we have all heard a lot more about “going green” in order to keep our city beautiful and healthy. For that reason, many homeowners have switched to LED lighting to illuminate the exteriors of their homes and property. While many people still consider the benefits LED lighting has on the environment (smaller carbon footprint), I want to talk about how choosing the LED option can benefit you by reducing overall maintenance costs and energy consumption.

LED Outdoor Light bulbs

Our LED technology puts off a nice warm light comparable to our halogen bulbs

Let’s begin by talking about LED outdoor lighting. In the past, LED lighting honestly didn’t look very good as outdoor lighting. Old LED lighting had that characteristic, blue tint we all recognize. In this type of light, colors are not seen in their true form. So, if you were illuminating your doorway or garden, the colors of your door or your flowers would not appear as they do in sunlight at any time of the day. Additionally, the blue color of old LED lights appeared “cold” if you will, not as friendly or inviting as their halogen counterparts. In recent years, our LED technology has made wonderful advancements. Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte uses Cree LED lights. The light emitted by these fixtures is just as good as the light from their halogen counterparts, is natural, and allows true colors to shine. Our new, high quality LED lights will give you the look you want and none of those cold, blue tones.

In addition, our outdoor LED lights are healthier for your pocket book.   While the upfront cost of LED is slightly greater than halogen, LED bulbs last remarkably longer than halogen. While a traditional halogen bulb may operate between 2,000 and 4,000 hours, an LED bulb could last up to 25 times longer, or up to 50,000 hours. LED bulbs require less electricity to operate and can be 80% more energy efficient. Think of what all you can do with the money you’ll save on your electrical bill, and you’ll be conserving energy too.

So, not only does LED outdoor lighting help our city but it also directly helps you. If you are interested in what outdoor lighting can do for your property, your family, and your finances, call Outdoor Lighting Perspectives of Charlotte today about what LED lighting can do for you.
